Volunteer Positions Available at the McPherson Museum:

Position – Grounds Maintenance/Janitorial Volunteer – 

General Responsibilities: Choose from – weeding, plant maintenance, watering, garbage, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning windows/doors, cleaning kitchen, dust mopping, etc.

Position – Archives Volunteer – General Responsibilities: Choose from –

  • Archives Assistant for Photography: convert cd’s and dvd’s to files and upload to the server, take photos of framed pictures and upload to server, photograph items from clubs and organizations and print materials
  • Archives Files Assistant: database entry, labeling and filing of all non-photo 2-dimensional materials, cleaning and re-filing of archival information (very detailed oriented position)
  • Archive Scanning Assistant: scan items from clubs and organizations and print materials, scan items from All Schools’ Day collection, scan sheet music collection and post card collection, upload all scanned items into a searchable database
  • Book Collections Manager: database entry, labeling areas of shelving of all books in the archives, box deaccessioned books and move to storage, assemble storage shelves

Position – Education Volunteer – 

General Responsibilities: Choose from –

  • Organization Assistant: maintain program boxes; maintain inventory of educational materials; filing of all educational program information
  • School Program Educator Assistant: assist with programs requested by or delivered to area schools.
  • Program Assistant: suggest topics for programs; research topics; help prepare programs; develop brochures on topics
  • Museum Summer Camps Assistant: suggest camp programs, help prepare programs and activities, assist with camps

Registration Volunteer – 

Volunteer Registration Assistant: measure, record, photograph and properly store small artifacts

Events Volunteer – 

Volunteer Events Assistant: assist with organizing and coordinating events; assist with event setup and cleanup; assist with managing food tables during events

Special Event Volunteer:  volunteer for various positions during Fall Festival (Oct 17, 2015), Haunted House (Oct. 17, 23, 24, 30, 31), Christmas Open House (Dec. 5) – some of these positions would be required prior to the event.  These positions would include some or all of these jobs:   set up, clean up, decorating, managing food tables, managing games, interacting with children, dressing in costume, acting

Event Volunteer:  dress in period clothing during unique events and serve as a live historical character

More Volunteer Positions –

Volunteer Exhibits Assistant: assist in mounting displays

Volunteer Tour Guide: learn tour information and provide tours of the exhibits during weekend and evening hours, as needed

Reception Desk/Guest Services Volunteer (weekend and evenings, as needed): greet guests, answer telephone, etc.

Position – Archives Volunteer –

General Responsibilities: Choose from –

  • Textiles Assistant: Reorganization and repacking of the Museum’s textiles collection of quilts, wedding dresses, military uniforms, and clothing.
  • Large Artifact Assistant: Reorganization and cataloging of the Museum’s collection of large artifacts.
